Step 1:

• Identify a medical consultant and site coordinator.

Step 2:

• Start your Reach Out and Read program application.

  • You will need to obtain a letter of support from the medical director and/or executive director of the organization.​

  • Start thinking about potential funding sources. Funding for books can come from multiple different sources. ROR can help you create a sustainable funding plan.

Step 3:

• Complete your application and click SUBMIT.

  • Applications are reviewed the 3rd week of each month.

Step 4:

• Receive a Reach Out and Read IN email with "approved to train" status.

• Ensure all medical providers are listed as contacts to receive their training link.

Step 5: 

• A minimum of 75% of medical providers (MD, DO, NP, PA) must complete the online training!

  • Other staff are encouraged to complete the training as well.​

• CME credit is available for the training.

Step 6: 

• Receive an email from Reach Out and Read IN once your site reaches 75% providers trained (reviewed once a month).

Step 7:

• Establish office protocol books, promote the program, continue to fundraise, and complete progress reports 2x/year.

• Receive books from Scholastic and/or All About Books.

• Greet your patients newborn to 5yrs with a book and literacy advice at well care visits!
